De muziek van Tuvayhun – Beatitudes for a Wounded World is gecomponeerd door de Noorse componist Kim André Arnesen. Hij is vooral bekend als koorcomponist, wat ook overduidelijk is op dit nieuwe album, waar koorstukken worden gelardeerd met instrumentaal werk. Op teksten van Charles Anthony Silvestre schreef Arnesen stukken waar het klassieke metier wordt gemixed met wereldmuziek en jazz. Een combinatie die verbluffend en wervelend uitpakt en de oren doet spitsen. Het werk is een ode aan de wereld die door massa-emigratie, pandemie, polarisatie, armoede en ongelijke inkomensverdeling, oorlog…etcetera, langzaam ten gronde gaat. Maar het werk is ook ode aan de prachtige wereld waar we zuinig op moeten zijn. Een plek waar zoveel mensen samenleven met ieder hun eigen cultuur, hun kenmerkende zang, tonaliteiten en instrumenten. Dit zijn de ingredieënten die Arnesen heeft gebruikt om zinnenstrelende muziek te componeren, hartverwarmend uitgevoerd door het Nidano Cathedral Girl’s Choir, Trondheim solisten, jazzmusici en fluit, cimbalom, harp, percussie en strijkers. In een glooiend muzikaal landschap horen we oude muziek, semi-liturgisch werken, wereldlijke stukken, een levendige volksdans, dubbel gelaagde strijkers en passages met oriëntaalse timbres. Al deze stijlen lopen over en door elkaar heen en vormen een bonte en toch mooi uitgebalanceerde mix. Wie de tijd neemt om dit werk, zonder voorbehoud, rustig te beluisteren, hoort een hymne, een lofzang voor hoop, voor écht samenkomen en elkaar respecteren. Een voorwaarde waarmee we deze kwetsbare wereld kunnen redden en deze muziek een mooi uitgangspunt is.

Tuvayhun – Beatitudes for a Wounded World is a wonderful musical exposé composed by the Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen for choir, soloists and orchestra.
The music of Tuvayhun: Beatitudes for a Wounded World was composed by Kim André Arnesen. He is best known as a composer for choir music, which is also evident on this new album, where choir songs are interspersed with instrumental work. Arnesen wrote pieces to texts by Charles Anthony Silvestre in which the classical metier is mixed with world music and jazz. A combination that is astonishing and dazzling and makes you wonder. The work is an ode to the world that is slowly perishing due to mass emigration, pandemic, polarization, poverty and unequal income distribution, war…etc. But the work is also an ode to the beautiful world that we have to be careful with. A place where so many people live together, each with their own culture, their characteristic singing, tonalities and instruments. These are the ingredients Arnesen has used to compose sensuous music, heartwarmingly performed by the Nidano Cathedral Girl’s Choir, Trondheim soloists, jazz musicians and flute, cimbalom, harp, percussion and strings. In a rolling musical landscape we hear early music, semi-liturgical works, secular pieces, a lively folk dance, double layered strings and passages with oriental timbres. All these styles run over and through each other and form a colorful yet beautifully balanced mix. If you take the time to listen to this work, without reservation, you will hear a hymn for hope, for real coming together and respecting each other. A condition with which we can save this vulnerable world and this excellent music is very a good starting point!
