Still Moving is een verrassend duo-album waarop we gitarist Justin Adams en de Italiaanse percussionist, violist Mauro Durante horen. Beide musici leren elkaar kennen tijdens de opname van het Taranta Project album van Ludovico Einaudi uit 2015. Daar ontstaat hun vriendschap en begint hun samenwerking, die resulteert in Still Moving. Deze CD werd in een keer opgenomen, zonder overdubs. In het openingslied Dark Road Down horen we een Noord-Afrikaanse (Touareg)gitaar-rif, gevolgd door Durante’s tamboerijn waarmee hij de snelle en opzwepende Zuid-Italiaanse tarantella 6-tels-maat slaat. Het concept is geboren. Een verbluffende mix van de Noord-Afrikaanse blues met de Zuid-Italiaanse tarantella, die in allerlei variaties voorbijkomt op Still Moving. Een volstrekt onverwachte, maar zeer geslaagde mix van stijlen, die elk hun authenticiteit behouden, maar samen een bijzondere eenheid vormt. De muziek is zeer avontuurlijk en afwisselend. Werkelijk schitterend zijn de Italiaanse liedjes Damme Nu Ricciu en Amara Terra Mia. Traditionals die door vervormd en soms schurend gitaarwerk worden omlijst, waardoor er een prachtig nieuw timbre ontstaat. Filmisch is Djinn Pulse dat met een langzaam intro, verderop verandert in muziek met minimal-kenmerken, terwijl Cupa Cupa weer Noord-Afrikaanser klinkt met een typische Italiaanse melodie. Kortom, een organische cross-over vol muzikale verwonderingen. Fascinerende muziek waarbij het Italiaanse cantabile wordt doordrenkt met rauwe Noord-Afrikaanse blues. Still Moving is a very surprising duo album on which we hear guitarist Justin Adams and the Italian percussionist, violinist Mauro Durante. Both musicians get to know each other during the recording of Ludovico Einaudi’s Taranta Project album in 2015. At that time their friendship developed and their collaboration began. Still Moving is the result. This CD was recorded in one go, without any overdubs. In the opening song Dark Road Down we hear a North African (Touareg) guitar riff, followed by Durante’s tambourine with which he beats the fast and exciting South Italian tarantella 6 counts. The musical concept was born. A stunning mix of the North African blues with the South Italian tarantella, which appears in all kinds of variations on Still Moving. A completely unexpected, but very successful mix of styles. Each of which retains its authenticity but forms a special unity together. The music is very adventurous and varied. The Italian songs Damme Nu Ricciu and Amara Terra Mia are truly magnificent. Traditionals that are framed by distorted and sometimes abrasive guitar work, creating a beautiful new timbre. Cinematic is Djinn Pulse that, with a slow intro, later on changes into music with minimal characteristics, while Cupa Cupa sounds more North African again with a typical Italian melody.
