Componist en arrangeur Thierry Biscary uit Baskenland (noord-Spanje), laat op zijn album eta KoBreak een fraaie harmonische mix horen van nieuw gecomponeerde vocale stukken: a capella maar ook met blazers/accordeonbegeleiding.

Thierry Biscary draait al heel wat jaren mee binnen de Baskische muziek, o.a. met zijn trio Kalakan. In 2018 bracht hij onder de naam Manez zijn debuut-album eta KoBreak uit, die nu in Nederland verkrijgbaar is. Op gedichten van Baskische dichters horen we vocale stukken, prachtig meerstemmig gearrangeerd en verdraaid strak gezongen. Een bevlogen meerstemmigheid die zich warm in je oor nestelt. Fraaie folk-georiënteerde melodieën die door inventieve arrangementen ver boven de gemiddelde muziek uitstijgen. Bijzonder zijn Zapetagilea, Manez eta Ñakosi, 100 alargunen dantza en Soaz amadioa errateraino waar de melodie éénstemmig begint en langzaam wordt aangevuld met bloemrijke meerstemmigheid, waardoor de muziek zich langzaam openvouwt met kleurrijke harmonieën. In andere stukken worden de vocalen ondersteund door musici van een klein fanfare-orkest (die overigens ook de achtergrondstemmen voor hun rekening nemen) dat bestaat uit Vianney Desplantes (tuba), Bixente Etchegaray (trompet), Laura Etchegoyhen (saxofoon) en Ana Telletxea (accordeon) en (licht) slagwerk. De muziek op eta KoBreak klinkt blij, monter en levendig en soms zelfs licht circus-achtig. De variatie van transparante a capella gezongen stukken, hier en daar ondersteund door begeleidingen van blazers, maakt van eta KoBreak een afwisselend album dat zeer de moeite waard is!

On his album eta KoBreak composer and arranger Thierry Biscary from the Basque Country (northern Spain) shows a beautiful harmonic mix of newly composed pieces: vocal songs with & without wind instruments and accordion accompaniment.

For many years Thierry Biscary has been playing in Basque music scene, including with his trio Kalakan. In 2018 he released his debut album eta KoBreak under the name Manez which is now available in the Netherlands. He wrote wonderful music to the poems of Basque poets, beautifully arranged in polyphony and sung in a twisted tight manner. An enthusiastic polyphony that makes you warm inside. Folk-oriented melodies that are easy to listen to. The inventive arrangements makes this music rise far above the average. Particularly beautiful are Zapetagilea, Manez eta Ñakosi, 100 alargunen dantza and Soaz amadioa errateraino where the melody starts in unison and is slowly supplemented with flowery polyphony, whereby the music unfolds with colorful harmonies. In other pieces, the vocals are supported by musicians of a small brass band orchestra (who also sing the background voices), consisting of Vianney Desplantes (tuba), Bixente Etchegaray (trumpet), Laura Etchegoyhen (saxophone) and Ana Telletxea (accordion) and (small) percussion. The music on eta KoBreak sounds happy, cheerful and lively and sometimes even slightly circus like, in a positive way. The variation of transparent a cappella sung pieces, supported here and there by accompaniments of wind instruments, makes eta KoBreak a varied album that is very worthwhile!
