Werkelijk klasse muziek!

English version

Violons Barbares is a special trio where the Bulgarian gadulka (kind of violin) played by Dimitar Gougov effortlessly merges with the steppe sound from Mongolia on the morin khoor (Horse fiddle) played by Dandarvaanchig Enkhjargal, supplemented by innovative percussion by the French musician Fabien Guvot. A beautiful unique musical cohesion.

A fresh combination are the gadulka and the morin khoor. Both string instruments have an unmistakable musical color that is authentic for the country were they come from; respectively Bulgaria and Mongolia. Dimitar Gougov plays gadulka. This three strings instrument has a rich sound because it is provided with resonance strings, which vibrate and make the sound beautifully wide. The morin khoor is the traditional instrument of Mongolia and also called horse-fiddle. Both instruments have a very individual character and touch the soul of Bulgaria and Mongolia. This makes you believe they are hard to combine. But the consonance of gadulka and morin khoor is fascinating, exciting and sometimes even enchanting. Anyone who know’s the music from Bulgaria and Mongolia will effortlessly recognize the atmosphere of the music of both countries in the compositions of Violons Barbares. But also for whom the music from these countries is less known, ‘Wolf’s Cry’ is still a great record. The pieces are rhythmic, with wonderful vocals and over-tone singing from Mongolia, tight polyphony and sophisticated rhythmic accompaniment. The three members of the group wrote all the pieces with lyrics about drinking, spring time or the future of the children. Violons Barbares proves with this third album that instruments that are geographically so far apart and come from a very different tradition, can connect so fantastically. Splendid and amazing music!
