Sommige CD’s bereiken Nederland pas na een paar jaar. Dat is helemaal niet erg, want voor goede muziek is het nooit te laat! Dat geldt zeker voor de albums van het Poolse gezelschap Volosi. Tegen een folk-achtergrond laten vijf strijkers op energieke wijze diverse stijlen horen. Na hun schitterend naamloze debuut verscheen in 2015 het prachtige ‘Nomadism‘.

De muziek van Volosi slaat in als een bom als de groep in 2011 zijn debuut uitbrengt. Ze winnen de Grand Prix Svetozar Stracina en hun CD staat binnen de kortste keren hoog in de World Charts Europe. Niet zo vreemd want hun muziek is sterk, moedig, dapper en innoverend. Er wordt fraai en geestdriftig gespeeld. Volosi bestaat uit vijf strijkers; twee violen, altviool, cello en contrabas die verdraaid goed op elkaar zijn gemusiceerd. Met gemak worden diverse stemmingen moeiteloos met elkaar verwisseld waaruit het vakmanschap van deze musici spreekt. Het gezelschap speelt nieuw geschreven stukken die vooral werden gecomponeerd door de violisten Krzysztof Lason en Zbigniew Michalek in een mix van Transilvaanse folk, gypsy muziek, klezmer, tango en (new)folk. Nergens wordt een stijl uitgediept maar steeds dartelt de muziek eromheen in een fraaie combinatie van verfijnde melodieën, fantasierijke arrangementen en korte improvisaties. Dat maakt Volosi uniek, origineel, tijdloos en een aanwinst voor elk avontuurlijke luisteraar!

There is a lot of music that never reaches the Netherlands, but for good music is never too late. So lucky as we are that the CD’s of the Polish band Volosi were released in the Netherlands this year 2016. From a folk background these five string players show us their energetically in various styles. After they released their superb nameless début in 2011, the beautiful ‘Nomadism‘ reached our country as well.

In 2011 the release of the first album by Volosi music makes the world music shake. This wonderful band won the Grand Prix Svetozar Stracina and their CD ended up high in the World Charts Europe. Not so strange, because their music is strong, courageous, tight and innovative. They play beautifully and enthusiastically. Volosi consists of five strings; two violins, viola, cello and double bass which fit wonderful in one musical colour. Easily various moods effortlessly interchanged which shows the craftsmanship of these musicians. The band plays newly written pieces that were mainly composed by the violinist Krzysztof Lason and Zbigniew Michalek in a mix of Transylvanian folk, gypsy music, klezmer, tango and (new) folk. Nowhere style is explored but the music floats around in a beautiful combination of sophisticated melodies, imaginative arrangements and short improvisations. That makes Volosi unique, original and timeless for the adventurous listener!
