English version

After his last album ‘Libretto‘ the Swedish double bass player Lars Danielsson (Göteborg – 1958) comes up with his new recording ‘Libretto II‘. His ninth at the German record label ACT. A splendid record with crystal melodies played by a tight wonderful ensemble.

Lars Danielsson studied cello at the Göteborg Conservatory. He got interested in jazz after a concert of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (Oscar Peterson) and started playing the double bass. Mid ’80’s he initiates his own Lars Danielsson Quartet with saxophone player David Liebman, pianist Bobo Stenson and drummer Jon Christensen. Above all he played with a lot of fine jazz giants like John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette and Charles Lloyd. Danielsson does have a remarkable precise way of playing. Very recognizable by his sober accompany (but solid as a rock) and harmonic solo’s with a striking feel. He composed almost all the pieces for ‘Libretto II‘. Characteristic music with polished melodies. Lovely rhythmic movements, modulations and wonderful solo’s takes you to a fantastic landscape. In this melancholic background the sun always shines. Sensitivity music: so wonderful and fascinating. Remarkable are the duets with the Nordic trumpet player Matthias Eick and the fine (modal) solo’s by pianist Tigran who is really doing a great job. We also hear guitarist John Parricelli, drummer Magnus Öström and the singers Cæcilie Norby and Zohar Fresco in two pieces. Lars Danielsson is musical expert: a brilliant musician and a splendid composer!
