English version

Saxophonist Boris Kovač (1955) is theater musician with a huge feeling for mood. His last project ‘Eastern Moon Rising‘ he recorded with his band La Campanella. A theatrical nice album, played so strong and pure with a lovely sense of melancholy.

Boris Kovač was born in Novi Sad, in the north of Serbia. In the ’90’s he worked in Italy, Slovenia and Austria and wrote music for small ensembles, related to theater. In 1995, back in Serbia, he played in the groups Ritual Nova, LaDaABa, Chamber Theater of Music Ogledalo and La Campanella. He gave a lot of concerts and wrote music for the films ‘Na lepom plavom Dunavu (The Beautiful Blue Danube) and ‘White, white World’. ‘Eastern Moon Rising’ is the fifth album he recorded with La Campanella. Kovač is an emotional musician who plays perfect balanced music with crawling melodies. Although sometimes the music is cliché, he’s a master in originality. In a tangle of styles his music becomes a genre itself. With flair he easily swings and sway through irregular rhythms, abrupt breaks, floating melodies en storytelling scenes. Sings/talks (recite) in two songs (in English) and plays lively the saxophone. Exciting is the multilateral role for the accordion both in accompany and solo parts, played wonderful by Goran Penic. The acoustic guitar of Vukašin Mišković is a great supplement to the music but the electric variant is over the top (‘Caravan‘). Boris Kovač, a really fantastic musician, built his musical craft on songs like ‘On Eastern Path’, ‘Sini Vals’ or ‘My Eastern Heart’ and put Serbia in a broad daylight with his new album ‘Eastern Moon Rising’!
