English version

The Osiris Trio was established 25 years ago, in 1988. Reason for a party and for the release of the 5-cd box ’25th Anniversary Box’, with different repertoire. A fine compilation with work from Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn Bartoldi, Shostakovich and Messiaen but also from contemporary Dutch composers like Theo Loevendie, Ron Ford, Theo Verbey and Van Oosten.

The Osiris Trio plays chamber music. A style, started at the beginning of the 18th century and developed to a new genre. The German Mannheimers (Stamitz) were the first who put dynamic signs in the score to show as much as possible how to play the music. The Osiris Trio sounds like an orchestra where piano, cello and violin are equal; supporting each other without competition. Every instrument twinkles in it’s musical context. ’25th Anniversary Box’ gives a wonderful overview of a quarter of a century Osiris Trio in a broad repertoire choice. On the openings cd we hear national music of Dvorák, Martin and Ives, who uses American folk tunes in his composition ‘Trio‘. Special as well and agile but melancholy is ‘Trio quasi una ballata’ of Vitezslav Novak, who uses, just like Dvorák, melodies from the Czech Republic in his compositions. ‘Quatuor pour la fin du temps’ was written in imprisonment (Görlitz – World War II) composed by Olivier Messiaen who adds the clarinet to the trio, played impressive by guest clarinettist Harmen de Boer. Also a guest musician is the soprano, Charlotte Riedijk in a vivacious version of ‘Seven romances after poems by Alexander Blok’ from contemporary Dmitri Shostakovich. The first piece he wrote after his heart attack in 1966. The fifth cd is reserved for exctiting and absorbing Dutch compositions on which the trio show their profile as all-round musical omnivor. For those who is this release the first acquaintance of this leading ensemble, they get a wonderful overview. A fine kick off for the next 25 years!
