English version

Andalusian Echoes is a successful project between the Moroccan singer Abir el Abed and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra. An ensemble founded around seven years ago with the aim of sharing the Al Andalus heritage; a mixture of music from the Maghreb and the Middle East.

In 2017 the singer Abir el Abed from Tangier (a city in the north of Morocco) was a finalist of the ‘Arabs Got Talent’ competition. Yes indeed, because Abir has a fresh and uninhibited way of singing that fits particularly well with the Arabic, flamenco and jazz repertoire. Her voice is pliable, flexible and sparkles with a natural beauty. She is accompanied on Andalusian Echoes by the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra (AAO) under the direction of Ahmed El Maai (kanun player) and Abderrahim Semlali; a Fes born musician / violinist who played in the National Orchestra of Morocco. The AAO creates a magical mix of Oriental sharqi music with jazz and flamenco influences, which is best expressed in Tifla Andalysia. A rather insignificant composition, but excellently played with a short but powerful solo by pianist Avishai Darash. Fine is the use of double bass and flamenco guitar (in Taqsim) and piano in the Moorish classic song Lamma Bada Yatathanna where singer Abir el Abed even leans against the melody and rubs along the melody with fine blue notes that adds a new timbre. At the end of the album CD, the pieces become more interesting. In the compositions Tifla Andalusya and Ya Rasha al Fattan, the ûd (Arabic lute) in Mawwal and the festive, but also melancholic final piece Qulu Liman Laysa Yadri you can enjoy the beautiful Andalusian Echoes.
