English version

Music doesn’t have to be innovative of course. But a new released music must have something extra, a reason to listen to. But the new CD The Marathon Concert‘ by the Norwegian band Ibrahim Electric is exciting. A trio of Hammond B3, guitar and drums from Copenhagen plays a compelling performance, recorded in the summer of 2016.

In July 2016 the Ibrahim Electric recorded a six-hour live show. A fine collection of twenty songs are now released now on the double-CD ‘The Marathon Concert’. An exciting concert where the Hammond B3 is undeniably the leading instrument, played by Jeppe Tuxen. The group builds a great mix of jazz, pop, funk, rock, afro-beat and surf music as to be heard on their last album ‘Outer Space‘, where arrangements are crystallized into musical structures, with a lot space for imagination. Where suggestion, ghost notes and spaces between the notes provide dynamic music; to-the-point and tight music. That makes Ibrahim Electric such a solid and compact trio. Moreover, they use a variety of sounds from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Groovy lounche / boogaloo, great Rhythm & Blues, and tight funk and pop. As musical chameleon this band moves smoothly between these different styles, through a wonderful musical landscape. They translate the musical past into a original present. Themes are played on guitar or Hammond-B3. Guitarist Niclas Knudsen creates a lovely Fender sound (with various effects) in moving solos. The organic drumming of Stefan Pasborg works assimilative where the delicious organ rubs against the musical trends which fits into a perfect tandem together with the guitar. ‘The Marathon Concert‘ proves to be one of the best live albums of recent times and is a splendid example of good and timeless music!
