In 1986 Gruppo Spontaneo Trallalero was founded to preserve the tradition trallalero from Genoa. An originally polyphonic singing style sung by men for tenor, baritone and bass and one voice who imitates the guitar (chitarra) with arpeggio-like vocals. Moreover, few texts are sung, added with phonetic in tra-la-la sounds that explains the name trallalero. This polyphonic vocal style is somewhat reminiscent of the klapa from the Dalmatian coast with the difference that in the Croatian style there’s always a lead singer in call-and-respond singing. Nowadays, there’s also a woman’s voice in the trallalero music. The counter-alt Laura Parodi is the female voice of Gruppo Spontaneo Trallalero. She reinforces the group with a fresh vocal on top. For years Parodi was the singer of La Rionda, who released wonderful CDs  as ‘Capitan de gran valore’ from 1994. On ‘Cantö Riöndö‘ there are recordings from the thirty-year anniversary of Gruppo Spontaneo Trallalero. Recordings from several locations with different singers and recorded with different recording devices which also explains the difference in quality. The group has over the years sung both traditionals as newly composed pieces such as ‘A ricetta‘ with a beautiful example of the female voice and a clear-chitarra voce. GST has lost none of its spontaneity, sounds fresh and uninhibited and guarantees a beautiful Mediterranean style of singing. Indeed, for many listeners, this is perhaps an introduction to these charming Italian voices in a particular way!
