In januari 2011 verscheen hun debuut.

English version

EtnoSaraj plays music related to Bosnia Herzegovina. The land of the sevdahlinka, songs about pain, hope, love or pleasure. January 2011 their début album was released. Now, three years later, their second record ‘Roots’ is a treasure of the heritage of this wonderful music.

EtnoSaraj is a mixed group. With guitar, accordion, saz, double bass and percussion the group shows a wide exposure. Most of the pieces are written by guitarist and singer Mile Lukić and accordionist Nermin Tulić both from Bosnia Herzegovina. The land where the sevdah comes from, the music, the soul of the people. Comparable with the Portugese saudade or the Spanish duende. But we also hear wonderful Greek (S tvoje strane…), Bulgarian and pop influences. But anyway, all the time the sevdah is audible in the music: in the voice of Lukić (splendid in Ulice bez koraka), or his guitar solo’s or in the accordion of Tulić, who plays very tight. EtnoSaraj shows an innovative way of making music which makes ‘Roots’ a must have one. On double bass we hear the Hungarian Andor Horvath and on percussion Ziga Secer, who moved back to his homeland Slovenia. He’s replaced by the German percussionist Udo Demandt who lives in Holland for years now. ‘Roots’ is a fine collection Balkan songs: exciting, touching but above all intense which brings the sevdah very close!
