English version below

English version

Since 2008 the Dutch pianist Boelo Klat has released four CD’s with his trio Klatwerk3. Now, the poetically-oriented album ‘Lost in Berlin’ can be added to his work. Beautiful and dynamic repertoire played with double bass player Ruud Vleij and drummer Ancel Klooster. Where the melody prevails above virtuosity creating a lovely sound.

As a child Boelo Klat learned to play the piano and studied classical and jazz music at the Prince Claus Conservatory in his native town Groningen (in the north of the Netherlands). When he started composing jazz compositions his musical career really started. Klat is a melody man who puts his compositions in various styles like pop, rock, waltz, gospel and melodic jazz, with occasional (‘Spirit’) touch to Shai Maistro, the Israeli pianist who makes furore in the trio of  double bass player Avishai Cohen. Great how important the melody is in Boelo Klat’s compositions. He uses the classical form: after the theme, improvisations and variations follow, mostly with the piano as main instrument. Tightly accompanied by double bass and drums. Klat chooses his notes with care and precision and moves like a fish musical water: warm and passionate. Not all compositions are equally innovative. But Klatwerk3 never lost his way at ‘Lost in Berlin’; in fact, this trio finds its musical route with ease and still is at an international level!
