De groep Le Collectif Tango Negro Ensemble brengt twee cd’s lang een inspirerend tribute aan de Argentijnse pianist Juan Carlos Cáceres.

Juan Carlos Cáceres (1936-2015) werd geboren in Buenos Aires. Hij was aanvankelijk trombonist, maar ontwikkelde zich later tot een begenadigd pianist en trad veel op in de jazz-scene van Buenos Aires. Eind jaren ’60 verhuist hij naar Parijs, waar hij gaat schilderen, muziekproducer en docent wordt en veel optreedt. In die tijd ging hij op zoek naar de stijlen uit de Rio de la Plata, de zee-inham tussen Argentinië en Uruguay. De plek waar de tango en de milonga, de theatrale murga en de van Afrikaanse oorsprong, de candombe ontstonden. Cáceres componeert in deze stijlen en heeft grote hits met Tango Negro en Tocá Tangó (beiden te vinden op deze dubbelaar).

Het Le Collectif Tango Negro Ensemble brengt op dit album een ode aan Juan Carlos Cáceres. Het ensemble staat onder leiding van de Argentijnse contrabassist Carlos Buschini. In een wisselende bezettingen van accordeon, bandoneon, piano, gitaar, vibrafoon, viool, cello, contrabas, drums, blazers en vocalen zijn met zorg en aandacht de composities van Juan Carlos Cáceres opnieuw gearrangeerd en aangevuld met eigen werk. We komen doorgewinterde musici uit de tango- en jazzwereld tegen waaronder de zangers Ariel Tobio, Peppe Servillo, Walter Laborde, trompettist Paolo Fresu, klarinettist Guido Bombardieri, gitarist Horacio Burgos, bandoneonist Martin Brun en drummer Marcelo Russillo.

De wisseling van grote en kleine bezettingen en de variatie in stijlen zorgen voor gevarieerde muziek. De uitvoeringen klinken weloverwogen en hebben een professionele uitstraling, waar ruimte is voor improvisaties en solo’s voor gitaar, piano, vibrafoon, klarinet en natuurlijk de bandoneon. Hét tango-instrument dat door Astor Piazzolla tot grote hoogte werd gespeeld in zijn Tango Nuevo in de ’50, waarmee hij de tango uit de cafe’s naar de concertzalen haalde.

Het album van Le Collectif Tango Negro Ensemble geeft de muziek van Juan Carlos Cáceres een enorme (tango)-boost, aangevuld, (zoals gezegd) met werk van leider en contrabassist Carlos Buschini. Composities die naadloos aansluiten bij de grootmeester.

The band Le Collectif Tango Negro Ensemble presents an inspiring tribute to the Argentinian pianist Juan Carlos Cáceres on two CDs.

Juan Carlos Cáceres (1936-2015) was born in Buenos Aires. Initially a trombonist, he later developed into a gifted pianist and performed extensively in the Buenos Aires jazz scene. In the late 1960s, he moved to Paris, where he became a painter, a music producer and teacher, and performed extensively. During this time, he explored the styles of the Rio de la Plata, the sea between Argentina and Uruguay. This is where tango and milonga, the theatrical murga, and the African-origin candombe originated. Cáceres composes in these styles and has had major hits, like Tango Negro and Tocá Tangó (both featured on this double album).

On this album by Le Collectif Tango Negro Ensemble they pay a tribute to Juan Carlos Cáceres. The ensemble is led by Argentinian double bassist Carlos Buschini. With a varied lineup of accordion, bandoneon, piano, guitar, vibraphone, violin, cello, double bass, drums, wind instruments, and vocals, Juan Carlos Cáceres’s compositions have been carefully and attentively rearranged and supplemented with original work.
