Fahre is een nieuw album van de Zwitserse componiste Kristina Brunner. Voor haar live-album componeerde ze alle stukken en speelt ze cello en schwyzerörgeli (soort accordeon).

Kristina Brunner groeit op in een muzikale familie. Sinds haar jeugd bespeelt ze de schwyzerörgeli, waarbij ze leert te musiceren op het gehoor, aangevuld met muziek- en cello-lessen. Het schwyzerörgeli is een diatonische accordeon met een opmerkelijk fris geluid. Het verschil met de accordeon is de duw- en trektechniek. Als je duwt klinkt er een andere toon dan als je trekt. Hetzelfde principe tref je aan bij de bandoneon en de mondharmonica. Het instrument wordt veel gebruikt in de Zwitserse volksmuziek.

Brunner combineert het instrument met (alt)viool, trompet, sopraan-/tenorsax, contrabas, percussie, gesproken woord en halszither. Een Zwitsers snaarinstrument met 9 snaren, verdeelt over 5 groepen. Zelf speelt ze, naast de schwyzerörgeli, cello en componeerde ze alle stukken.

Het album Fahre bestaat uit 10 delen: Fahre01 t/mFahre10. De muziek vormt een filmische reis door een (Zwitsers) landschap dat voortdurend verandert. Waar alpenweides voorbij schieten, hoge bergen met besneeuwde toppen opdoemen, bossen en meren te zien zijn, naast idyllische dorpen en rumoerige steden. Dit vormt het decor voor beeldende muziek, die geschreven is voor diverse instrumentcombinaties en zorgen voor een rijke klankkleur. Zo horen we Fahre03 een fraaie viool-solo, naast gesproken woord (in het Zwitsers) en is het daaropvolgende stuk een weelderige dans, gevolgd door Fahre05. Een werk met spannende en opwindende percussie. Mooi is ook Fahre08, dat met zwierend vioolspel, raspende percussie en trompet een mooie weerspiegeling is van snelheid, gevolgd door een draai-kolk van accordeon, trompet en halszither. In alle stukken is er ruimte voor solistische fragmenten en improvisatie, waardoor elk instrument de mogelijk krijgt om te schitteren. Het slotstuk een duidelijke finale. Wervelende muziek in een rijk palet van diverse instrument-kleuren die als een patchwork in elkaar grijpen en een aaneenschakeling is van snel wisselende timbres.

Fahre is een werk dat Kristina Brunner componeerde naar aanleiding van een compositie-opdracht die zij kreeg van het festivalStubete am See in 2024. Het werk werd live uitgevoerd in augustus 2024 en zo op CD gezet. Een fantastisch prestatie, die fantastische muziek heeft opgeleverd.

Fahre is a new album by the Swiss composer Kristina Brunner. She composed all the pieces for her live album and plays cello and schwyzerörgeli (a type of accordion).

Kristina Brunner grew up in a musical family. Since her childhood, she has played the schwyzerörgeli, learning to play by ear, supplemented with music and cello lessons. The schwyzerörgeli is a diatonic accordion with a remarkably fresh sound. Its difference from the accordion lies in the push-pull technique. Pushing produces a different note than pulling. The same principle is found in the bandoneon and harmonica. The instrument is widely used in Swiss folk music.

Brunner combines the instrument with (viola) violin, trumpet, soprano/tenor sax, double bass, percussion, spoken word, and halszither (a Swiss stringed instrument with 9 strings divided into 5 groups). Besides the schwyzerörgeli, she also plays the cello and composed all the pieces.

The album Fahre consists of 10 movements: Fahre01 through Fahre10. The music forms a cinematic journey through a constantly changing (Swiss) landscape. Where alpine meadows flash by, high mountains with snow-capped peaks loom, forests and lakes appear alongside idyllic villages and bustling cities. This forms the backdrop for evocative music written for various instrument combinations, creating a rich timbre. For example, Fahre03 features a beautiful violin solo alongside spoken word (in Swiss), and the subsequent piece is a lush dance, followed by Fahre05, a work with exciting and thrilling percussion. Fahre08 is also wonderful in a reflecting speed with its sweeping violin, rasping percussion, and trumpet, followed by a whirlwind of accordion, trumpet, and halszither. All the pieces offer space for solo fragments and improvisation, giving each instrument the opportunity to shine. The final piece offers a clear finale. Swirling music in a rich palette of diverse instrumental colors that interlock like a patchwork, a succession of rapidly changing timbres.

Fahre is a work Kristina Brunner composed in response to a composition commission she received from the Stubete am See festival in 2024. The work was performed live in August 2024 and subsequently released on CD. A fantastic achievement that has resulted in fantastic music.
