Duidelijk? Óf gewoon even lezen en luisteren…..

English version below

De twee jazzmusici: saxofoniste Cecilie Vreemd (o.a. Over Sundet) en violiste Kristine Heebøll (o.a Trio Mio).

English version

The debut album ‘Vildskud‘ by the Danish quartet Bark & Blik is a wonderful new CD. Composed chamber-folk with a touch of jazz in a Danish background.

Bark & Blik are four well educated musicians who all studied at the Conservatory of Odense. Two jazz musicians: the saxophonist Cecilie Vreemd (Over Sundet) and guitarist Simon Krebs with folk musicians (bass) clarinet player Siri Iversen (Over Sundet) and violinist Kristine Heebøll (Trio Mio). Bark & Blik started by coincidence while these four musician shared a stage together. That sounded very well and they decided to start a band and record their first album ‘Vildskud’. Since the revival of the early 90s, the folk evolved: musicians play better, new folk instruments were added and new mixed developed. Bark & Blik plays instrumental (Danish) folk and lards it with jazz and classical music with a lot of improvisation. Moreover, they add the sax and (bass) clarinet which are hard to find in folk music. The beautiful melody lines of sax, clarinet and violin run joyfully together and are firmly supported by the guitar, the only chordal instrument. Composed and improvised passages are easily connected. Noteworthy are the beautiful instrument combinations, not all instruments are constantly present, which makes the music adventurous and exciting. Beautiful pieces are the opening song ‘Grass Widow’ with it’s joyful rhythm, the energetic ‘Alarm’ (with dynamic guitar / violin combination), the magnificent circular melody in ‘Nat’ and finally ‘Farvel‘; a ballad, a fine hymn, in which clarinettist Siri Iversen also appears to be a great singer.
