English version below

English version

‘Under the surface‘ is the album that drummer / percussionist Joost Lijbaart recorded with singer  Sanne Rambags and guitarist Bram Stadhouders. Sparkling music where sound and silence are each equivalent and makes you feel small. These three musicians create a palette of musical atmospheres that brightens your ear like a prism.

It’s a matter of taste and class if you approach music from silence, from the simplicity. That’s how these musicians create music. In a creative way they approach their instruments and invent a lovely musical soundscape with a fresh timbre. Subtle they put structures from minimal music in their songs, we hear a variety of guitar colors and arpeggios (sometimes resembling the Finnish kantele ‘Dreamcave‘) and singer Rambags sings in English but also speaks lyrics, with a lovely touch of Laurie Anderson (‘Adem’). The drums put tight accents to the music added with great percussion. Particularly the guitar and percussion / drums are well connected to each other, with predominantly long vocal lines flatter between these tingling sounds. Delicate reverb, added with some echo, turns the music into endless atmosphere like you’re floating through on thin air. Only the song ‘Going Native‘ is different. In this improvised rhythmic work the vocals are inspired by the Inuit (Northern Scandinavia people), including the falsetto. By now the music on ‘Under the surface‘ lifts you above ground level, which not only feels liberating but that’s also what makes this music so special!
