English version

Preservation of the cultural heritage of the Betsileo people is one of the main reasons for the Tanga group from Madagascar: the dances (like the kidodo), the clothes, the hairstyle and of course the fast rhythms of the horija music with the zafindraona songs. All music on this debut CD is written by singer and guitar player Tanga Andriakamelo.

The Betsileo population lives in central Madagascar with a musical tradition that Tanga Andriakamelo wants to preserve and disseminate. Therefore, he released his first album ‘Le Trésoirs des Ancêtres‘, dedicated to this particular culture. Music, song and dance are an integral part of the Betsileo people, who originated live from agriculture. The music is the most important for musician Tanga Andriakamelo. He wrote almost all the songs and plays the kabosy (kind of square guitar with 4 or 6 strings) and toured with his brothers Alfred and Dina through the region and plays long nights at local celebrations. In 2004, the trio is expanded with singers and dancers and became famous in the Isandra Valley (central Madagascar). Besides entertainment songs the Tanga group deals with educational issues which can be found in texts such as ‘How do you feed your child‘ (‘Sakafon-Jaza’) or the ‘burning of vegetation for the purpose of fertility of the soil’ (‘Doro Tanetry’). But also themes such as ‘divorce’, ‘friendship’, ‘love’ and ‘guarding your property by night patrol in ‘Kalony‘ are repertoire of this particular group. The recordings were made on location with simple accompaniment by guitar, kabosy, harmonica, melodica and percussion with lovely polyphonic and call-and-respond singing. With exciting and rapid repetitive rhythms this ensemble share their wonderful culture from central Madagascar, which sounds so pure and honest that you easily feel being part of it!
