English version

‘Sand to Glass’ is the third album of the Dutch trio Kapok with the members Kliphuis, Koomen and Menting on horn, guitar and percussion. An excellent combination that once again is the basics for innovative and transparent music. An elaborate trademark for an inspriring musical road with a sprakling horizon.

It’s pretty hard, but a challenge, to create original music in this globalizing world. But trio Kapok succeeds in the unusual combination of horn, guitar and percussion. Their new album ‘Glass to Sand‘ is a musical exposé on the edge of cinematic music, irregular rhythms (Flogstones), cross-rhythms, African influences (Adono), pop, funk (Haphop) and rock (Cocti and Glass at Sand). The music of Kapok is full of suggestion. It’s a musical metamorphosis that sometimes shows his real face. That’s very well done and requires knowledge and musical sense. They are assisted by a number of guest musicians. Specifically wonderful is the sonorous bass clarinet of Mete Erker, the compact brass section in the title piece and dexterous multi phone organ of Niels Broos with a lovely and rubbing melody. The music on ‘Glass to Sand‘ is a kind of melodic watermark, in which Kapok creates a stylistic illusion and leads the listener to the heart of the music.
