Een a capella Marokkaans bruiloftslied waarin Karbasi in alle puurheid haar vakmanschap toont.

English version

La Tsadika’ is the third album of Mor Karbasi. A singer, born in Jeruzalem in a Moroccan/Persian backgound. She sings Sefardic music in a Southern Spain and Moroccan tradition added with own compositions.

In 1492 the Spanish king Ferdinand and queen Isabelle forced Jews to become a Christian or leave the country (in Portugal the same happened five years later). A lot of Jews left Spain and went to Northern Europe, Turkey or Greece and the Jewish music developed in their new home lands. The Sephardic music is a rich inspiration for a lot of musicians like Claire Zalamansky, Janet & Jak Esim, Yasmin Levy and of course the Greek singer Savina Yannatou. They give all their own interpretation to this wonderful repertoire. Mor Karbasi mixed Andalusian and Moroccan music with the Sephardic. Nowadays she lives in Sevilla with her husband Joe Taylor. Guitar player and producer of ‘La Tsadika’. The music is fresh, sparkling and splendid arranged with an eye for detail. Like the clarinet in La Blanco Paloma, buzzing guitar solo in Aunque la dí la mano or the serene string quartet in Sol La Tsadika. Karbasi sings passionate with inspiration, with lovely ornaments in the high notes (sometimes to much vibrato). Lyrics are about (dreamy) love affairs, religion and nature and sung in Ladino. An almost disappeared Hebrew language. Every song has a different vibe and so a different musical colour by using different instrument combinations. At the end of the album we hear the a cappella Ay Si Te Fueres a Banar Novia. An extremely beautiful Moroccan wedding song in which Mor Karbase shows her pure crafts work!
