English version

Matilde Politi from Sicily released her sixth solo-album ‘Vacanti sugnu china’, accompanied by Compagnia Bella. She develloped a fine moderation between new and traditional Sicilian songs. The characteristic arrangemants and the striking voice brings a provocative album.

Matilde Politi was born in Palermo. She graduated in Cultural Antropology and got a diploma in Performing Arts. She’s a singer, an actrice and plays guitar, accordion, percussion and balofon (small African marimba). She also develloped exiting cross-over projects, solo and with several dansers and musicians with all kinds of backgrounds. From 2000 Politi focused on Sicilian traditional music. She did research on locale music and arranged it for her cd’s. On her last album ‘Vacanti sugnu china’ (‘Empty – I’m full’) you find traditional and new composed songs written by Matilde Politi in which you feel the heartbeat of Sicily. But there’s more. We hear African (balofon), Roma, Oriental sounds (flute) and regularly the tarantella: the quick South-Italian dance. Politi is an expressive singer: she really pefroms the lyrics. Powerful with Napolitan proud, but also fragile and apparently insecure. This way of singing fits wonderful in the daring arrangements and gives every song it’s own musical timbre and shows a multilateral Sicily. An island which is  the home place for many immigrants for centuries, beautiful translated to the present time by Matilde Politi and her Compagnia Bella.
