On this cd-review site, you’ve never find a book review, with one exception ’25 jaar Afrika in Hertme’ (’25 Years Africa at Hertme’). A book about this very nice festival that grown from a small to a big event. Although the program is outstanding, this festival has kept his warm ambience. (Hertme is a small village between Almelo and Hengelo in the East of the Netherlands).

This year (2013) the Afrikafestival excists 25 years. Reason for promoting it with a wonderful book with lots of pictures, background information about the musicians and story’s told by visitors and volunteers. From the beginning the festival was organised in the open-air theatre at Hertme. The theatre was built in the ’50’s for religious plays. In 1989 the dance group ‘Logoin de Toma’ from Burkina Faso had some concerts in Groningen and they visited Hertme to do some shows as well: the festival was born. Rob Lokin, a retired family doctor at Hertme, who worked in Cameroon for three years, got involved in programming for the festival from the early ’90s. In the meantime the festival had grown from a one-day-festival to a-more-days festival: without benefit and worked with a lot of volunteers. Lokin revealed always a wide African program. Thé African people don’t exist and thé African music either: so the shows always were filled with traditional, actual and variable music: the success of the festival! We find it all in the book ’25 jaar Afrika in Hertme’: a timeless exposure for everybody who knows and loves the ‘Afrikafestival’.
